Shadows Take One

  • Mood: sleepy
  • Music: The Panther ~ Postal Service
  • Thoughts: I think I'll bring their cd in tomorrow
Let me tell you about the tragedy that are the shadows.

Shadows are essentially magnificent creatures. Shadows are not always seen, but still manage to be there at all times. They can be any shape or size imaginable. There is no  such thing as a shadow is is ill fitting. They can flit from place to place without worry, preforming feats that only others wish they could do. They are incredibly difficult to injure in any way, and because of this they are loyal and strong.

Unfortunately, the strength of a shadow is also the weakness. While a shadow can be any shape in the world, it's never really that shape. No matter how much a shadow looks like a sphere, it can never be one. This in turn brings about another downfall. If a shadow takes the shape of a sphere, it can disappear within the spheres. To a cube, the shadow is just as much a sphere as any other one. But to the spheres that the shadow is emulating at this point in time, it's a mirage. One moment it fits perfectly, and the next, it doesn't exist.

Then there's another flaw. While a shadow has no shape of its own, it's almost completely dependent on others to give it some kind of form. This form however varies. A shadow doesn't always have to mimic a shape perfectly. It can take multiple shapes and mash them together to suit its needs. However, there is a price in that too. The more changes to the shape there is, the more visible the shadow becomes, and the more it doesn't fit in. And because the shape that the shadow has created is completely of its own imagination, it doesn't match any other shape.

Then there is the question of what if a shadow let go of itself? What if a shadow decided that it doesn't need to copy shapes to have a form, but it instead decided that it would take its own natural form. Now while this idea seems logical, there is a problem. Shadows have incredible amounts of volatility and potential. That's what makes them a shadow. That aspect of them is what allows them to be anything they want. Shapes give this force control.

But here is the paradox of a shadow. A shadow has this incredible power in them. So much so that it's difficult to control. So to keep it in control so that they may live with themselves, they take a shape. This appeases half of their being. The other half though is in anguish because it wishes to be free. But if it were to be free, then there is no longer control, which the other half desires.

AHAHAHA

I think I overcomplicated something that in my head seemed simple. It's really hard to put it to words though. It's been something that I've been thinking about a lot lately, and this is the first time I've tried to explain it.

Though it's like taking a poem in Japanese and translating it to English and have it sound equally poetic in both languages. I can translate it very literally and roughly, but I wont be happy with it. Or I can make it overly metaphorical and nobody will understand it. I have to find this happy medium someplace.

Why?

Because when I walk sage at night, there's this feeling there. And I want to put that down. And I have to start by some how explaining shadows.

I also ended up thinking about it because of group today.

Out~
